They placed him in my arms, and everything changed.
People always talk about how moms instantly connect, but no one really tells you what it feels like to be a new dad; standing there, completely in awe, completely unsure.
Thereās no manual for this.
He wants to be strong, steady, and the guy who knows what to do. But the truth is⦠He is still learning. He is fumbling through diaper changes. He is Googling everything. He is trying to figure out how to support his partner, when he doesn't always know what she needs or what the little one needs.
Sometimes he worries he's not doing enough. Not saying the right things. Not bonding fast enough. But then thereās this moment; when their tiny heads rest on their chest, their breath syncs with theirs and suddenly they feel it.
He may not have all the answers. But he has love. He has a presence. And maybe thatās what fatherhood is really about.
To the new dads out there trying to show up, even when youāre scared youāre not alone. Youāre doing more than you know.
And your child?
They already think youāre a hero. š¤
